E. Coli

It is the responsibility of food product manufacturers to deliver their customers with safe and clean goods. Restaurants and other food service institutions also have the responsibility of thoroughly cleaning and cooking their products in order to remove or kill any dangerous bacteria that may be present and infect an unknowing eater. One of the most dangerous types of bacteria that can infect an individual through his or her consumption of contaminated food is Escherichia coli (E. coli).

How E. Coli Is Transferred

E. coli is transferred from infected meats and produce to people if the one or more of the following occurrs:

  • Undercooking meat
  • Failure to thoroughly wash fruits or vegetables
  • Ingesting unpasteurized juices and liquids
  • Drinking water that has been contaminated with waste

Restaurants and food manufacturers have the responsibility of protecting the safety of their customers. Failure on their behalf to take the above steps may result in illness to innocent consumers. If you have been a victim of E. coli, then you have the right to press legal charges against the responsible party.

The Symptoms of E. coli

The symptoms of an E. coli infection include the following:

  • Very severe stomach cramping
  • Vomiting and diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
  • Nausea

These symptoms can be very uncomfortable, and in some individuals, the infection may progress to a life-threatening stage. In general, E. coli will leave the body within 5-10 days, even without treatment.
