Salmonella, a genus of bacteria that causes intestinal system complications, typically enters victims’ bodies through their ingestion of contaminated food products. These complications are attributed to an illness known as salmonellosis. Salmonellosis is not life-threatening, but health problems associated with this disease, if left untreated, may be fatal. Every year, approximately 1.4 million cases of this illness arise in the United States.
People who have been infected with salmonella bacteria typically contract the illness through their consumption of contaminated food or beverage products. In general, goods are tainted by exposure to animal feces during any number of the harvesting or processing procedures. When they reach the consumers, they remain hazardous until the product is thoroughly cleaned and/or cooked. Because of this, both food product manufacturers and food industries such as restaurants or cafes may be held liable for a customer’s development of salmonellosis.
Salmonellosis is characterized by intestinal discomfort and complications, such as stomach cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. None of these are directly life-threatening, but other issues that may arise as a result of a salmonellosis infect can pose serious threats to their victims:
In general, salmonellosis does not require treatment to assist the human immune system in fighting the bacteria. However, these more severe issues listed above may necessitate medical attention to protect the victim from the threat of death.
If you have suffered from salmonella as a result of poor restaurant or food production sanitation, then you may have the right to claim damages.
