People with weakened immune systems or who are currently hooked up to particularly invasive medical machines are more likely to develop staph infections. Therefore, hospitals are prime locations for people to develop staph infections. Patients typically have weakened immune systems and many are connected to catheters, IVs, and are intubated. Hospitals must be cleaned thoroughly, medical providers must wash their hands between seeing different patients, and operating rooms must be kept sterile.
