Texting and Driving

Laws across the nation have banned the practice of sending and reading text messages while driving. This is a fairly recent development, as texting has only recently become a popular means of communication. When looking at the statistics regarding texting and driving, though, it is no wonder why these laws are in place.

Some statistics show texting and driving to be twice as dangerous as drinking and driving. If you or someone you love suffered injuries in a car accident because of an individual who was texting and driving, contact the Las Vegas car accident lawyers of William Palmer & Associates, P.C. at 702-888-2222.

Why Is It Dangerous?

Texting and driving may make some drivers as much as eight times more likely to cause an auto accident than drivers who give their full attention to the road. For comparison, drunk drivers are up to four times more likely to cause a collision.

The reason why texting while driving is so dangerous is because it diverts the driver’s attention to a great degree. Individual who text usually must:

  • Take their eyes off of the road
  • Concentrate on what they are typing

A driver diverting his or her attention in this manner is not as likely to be mindful of his or her fellow motorist or any unexpected road conditions or obstructions.
