Whiplash is a neck injury that results from the quick extension and compression of the muscles in that area. Typically, the ligaments of the spine are stretched out through an abrupt extension of the head – such as one that may result from a rear-end motor vehicle accident – and are then snapped back into place as the head whips back forward.
