A Las Vegas woman awaits her arraignment after intending to plead guilty to felony DUI charges.
Charged in connection with a crash that killed a 28 year-old man, the woman could be facing 8 to 20 years in prison.
According to police reports, the accident occurred around 3:18 a.m. on April 9, after the 29 year-old defendant had been drinking at a bar and got into her car. She hit the man’s Buick Century at a northwest Las Vegas intersection with her Jeep Grand Cherokee, and destroyed the man’s car. After being rushed to the hospital, the man was pronounced dead. The defendant only received minor injuries. Not only did she fail multiple sobriety tests, but police also found four prescription pills in her purse which she could not account for with matching prescriptions.
The man’s family has pushed for a maximum punishment. They characterized him as an Air Force veteran who was aiming to obtain a second college degree. According to the man’s sister, he was returning from making copies for a class when he was hit.
