A man from New Russia Township, Ohio, was found dead by police officers on Tuesday after being bit hundreds of times by his family’s dogs.
The location was roughly 35 miles southwest of Cleveland, Ohio. The man was originally found by his father on the driveway of his house in the early afternoon. He was bleeding profusely and covered in dog bites.
Police accounted for nine dogs in the incident. Two were killed at the site of the death, as they approached authorities with an intention to harm responding officers. The other seven dogs were more cooperative and were peacefully put down later. The coroner overseeing the incident noted that it was possible that the dogs had formed a pack without the owners knowing of such a development. Such social groups among canines can cause dogs to disobey their owners, even leading them to attack humans. The dogs have not yet been tested for diseases such as rabies.
