According to officials with the Nevada Highway PAtrol, a the accident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. in the westbound lane of Russell Road, just south of the Las Vegas Strip. Police say a Toyota Camry was traveling east in the westbound lanes and collided with a Toyota Scion at the Interstate 15 overpass.

The two drivers were transported by ambulance to University Medical Center. The driver of the Camry was pronounced dead later Thursday morning.

A section of the road was shut down for several hours while police investigated the accident.

According to court documents, judge Jennifer Togliatti sentenced 29 year-old Miranda Dalton to eight to 20 years in prison. Dalton pleaded guilty in June to driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in death.

Dalton was drunk behind the wheel of her Jeep Grand Cherokee April 9 when she struck a Buick Century driven by 28 year-old Paul Maidman on Cheyenne Avenue. Maidman was pronounced dead later that night at University Medical Center in Las Vegas. A prosecutor said Dalton’s blood alcohol content was more than two times the legal limit after the crash.

Dalton had a previous driving under the influence conviction from a 2001 case.

According to court documents, Kim Levine is seeking damages for herself and her two sons, ages 13 and 6, in the crash of a 2010 Toyota Tacoma that killed her husband, 55 year-old Jeffrey Mark Levine, on December 1. Levine’s attorney, Gerald Gillock, alleged that Toyota quietly advised dealerships in the U.S to inspect Tacoma models for “floor mat pedal entrapment” problems, but did not begin to recall vehicles until later.

“This did not have to happen, Levine said. “A floor mat is such a simple replacement. I’m sure it would just take a few moments.”

The location was roughly 35 miles southwest of Cleveland, Ohio. The man was originally found by his father on the driveway of his house in the early afternoon. He was bleeding profusely and covered in dog bites.

At this point, the father shook the child and poured water on her in an attempt to revive her. With this failing, he called for help. In his defense, he stated that he is more aggressive when playing with his children because he does not want them to be pushed over or taken advantage of when they grow older. After telling police about the different games he would play with his daughter, he was arrested on a count of child abuse and substantial bodily harm. After the girl died on Tuesday, those charges were increased to murder by child abuse.

The case was opened following an outbreak of Hepatitis C in Nevada. According to sources, patients at a clinic were given propofol, a generic anesthetic made by Teva and Baxter. The vials were reused after each procedure, although the drug companies stated that they were clear that this was not how they intended the drug to be administered. However, the law suit proceeded to find Teva and Baxter liable, as the companies supposedly pushed larger 50-milliliter vials as opposed to their smaller 10-milliliter vials. According to the plaintiffs, these larger vials encouraged multiple uses.

The doctors and nurses of the clinic settled their particular malpractice suits before the Teva and Baxter trial.
